Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A youth allegedly jumped into a river under the influence of alcohol in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, as reported by police on Saturday.
According to information, the incident took place near the Jhurjhuru River in the Ranjhi area of Jabalpur. As soon as the youth jumped into the river he got swept away by the strong current.
It is said that 3 young men were sitting on a small bridge over the river, consuming alcohol. During their drinking session, an argument broke out among them. In a drunken state, one of them, identified as Dharmendra Kol, suddenly jumped into the river.
The river's flow was strong, especially after the gates of the Bargi Dam were opened recently. As soon as Dharmendra jumped, he was carried away by the gusting water. One of the other youths tried to save him by jumping in as well, but managed to swim back to safety.
The incident happened near Kisan Hotel in Mastana Chowk of Ranjhi. The youth involved is said to be a resident of that area. Police arrived at the scene after receiving information and alerted the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF).
The SDERF team is currently conducting a rescue operation in the area. The incident occurred in the Pariyat region, under the jurisdiction of Ranjhi police station.
