Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Transport Department launched a campaign against overage vehicles, in a bid to combat air pollution. The department impounded 50 autos that were more than 15 years old.
This initiative aims to tackle two pressing issues: environmental pollution and road safety. The Transport Department had previously cancelled registrations for over 3,000 diesel and petrol autos, yet many continued to operate.
Recent actions by the traffic police during 'Road Safety Week' led to the seizure of more than 50 illegally operating autos. According to traffic officials, there are currently 294 old autos deemed technically unfit, which are now being taken off the roads.
This campaign will not only target autos but will also extend to other outdated vehicles including private cars, trucks, and buses. Additionally, measures will address road encroachments, traffic violations, and stray animals on crossings, aiming for a safer and cleaner Jabalpur.
Experts believe this initiative positions Jabalpur as a pioneer in Madhya Pradesh, setting a precedent for other cities to follow.
