Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Speaker of the State Assembly Narendra Singh Tomar will lay the foundation stone of proposed rest houses for MLAs on Monday, officials said on Sunday.
The MLA Rest House was constructed in 1958 on Arera Hills to serve as residence for members of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Most of these buildings, now about 67 years old, have started deteriorating.
In many buildings, MLAs face problems such as rainwater dripping and plaster peeling off. The old houses were built according to architectural plans of that time and currently lack local requirements and facilities.
About 10 months ago, the state government approved the decision in a cabinet meeting to build 102 flats for members.
The new houses will be built at the same location by demolishing Block One of the MLA Rest House and shopping complex along with the old family block. The project cost is estimated at approximately Rs 159.13 crore.
