Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The ambitious Rural Transport Connectivity (RTC) scheme could not take off in the state as the six-month pilot project launched in Vidisha district failed to yield desired results, said transport minister Uday Pratap Singh here in Assembly on Wednesday. He was responding to a question raised by MLA Bhairo Singh Bapu.
The minister said that to provide accessible and secure public transport service in the state, a decision was taken to implement the RTC Model in Vidisha district as a six-month pilot project starting from May 1, 2022.

Under this, incentives were to be given to vehicle operators along with a full rebate in monthly vehicle tax. The government was to launch the scheme state-wide on the basis of the success of the Vidisha pilot project.
However, the pilot project was not fully successful and hence the scheme could not be implemented across the state, said the minister.
The minister further informed the House that the government does not give any kind of subsidy under the rural transport scheme.
Under the Madhya Pradesh Transport Policy 2010, the Rural Transport Service Scheme is implemented across the state.
