Bhopal Ranked Second Cleanest City in India: BMC Chairman Feeds Laddus To Sanitation Workers; Celebrations Erupt Across the City |
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal has once again made the city proud by securing the second rank in the Swachh Survekshan 2024.
It becomes the second cleanest city in India in the category of cities with a population above 10 lakh.
The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu during a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

To mark this occasion sweets were distributed and sanitation workers were felicitated at the Municipal Corporation office in Mata Mandir.
Chairman Suryavanshi personally fed laddus, garlanded workers, and played the drum, joining in the celebratory dance and music.

Mayor Malti Rai and Corporation Commissioner Harendra Narayan received the prestigious award.
The achievement marks a significant jump for Bhopal, which was ranked fifth last year. Corporation Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi announced that the city will celebrate this achievement on a grand scale.
Bhopal over the years
Over the years, Bhopal has shown steady improvement in cleanliness. It had earlier secured second place in 2017 and 2018, dropped to 19th in 2019, and gradually climbed back. It was 7th in 2020 and 2021, 6th in 2022, and 5th in 2023.
The improved ranking is credited to better waste processing systems and efficient door-to-door garbage collection, along with a city-wide push following the Global Investors Summit 2024.

Rs 7k incentive as a token of appreciation
As a token of appreciation, Swachhata Mitras will receive Rs 7k incentive each, matching the city’s star rating. BMC Chairman Suryavanshi called the achievement a result of the collective efforts of the Municipal Corporation, sanitation workers and active citizen participation. He urged everyone to continue this spirit to help Bhopal claim the top spot in future rankings.
