Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The district administration on Monday imposed a ban on fishing in Bhopal from June 16 to August 15 with a motive to protect and conserve aquatic life during the breeding season.
Bhopal district collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh declared this period as “closed season”, prohibiting all fishing activities in rivers and reservoirs for next two months.

The ban also extends to the sale, exchange, and transportation of fish during this time. However, small ponds or isolated water bodies not linked to rivers and not classified as specified waters are exempt from the restriction of fishing.
Fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed upon violation
Fisheries committees, groups, private fishermen, and the general public have been directed to comply strictly. Any violation may attract penalties under the law, including imprisonment up to one year or fine of Rs 5,000, or even both.
