Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) stepped up its anti-encroachment drive on Saturday, clearing unauthorised structures from different parts of the city and removing obstacles hindering the Metro Rail project.
Acting on instructions from BMC commissioner Harendra Narayan, anti-encroachment squads took swift action across key areas such as MP Nagar Zone-01, Board Office, Rani Kamlapati Railway Station, Shahpura, Bairagarh, Nehru Nagar, Kolar, and more.
Items like handcarts, stools, cycles, paan parlours, weighing scales, umbrellas, benches, construction materials, and even illegally parked four-wheelers were seized.
In a major move near Bairagarh Railway Bridge, the corporation demolished 10 illegal shops obstructing ongoing Metro rail works construction. Additional actions included the removal of thatched roofs, sacks on drains, and sand, bricks, and gravel from areas like Ashoka Garden and Baba Nagar.
In all, officials confiscated 5 shops, 30 handcarts, 3 vending carts, 4 bicycles, and various other street vending materials. Shopkeepers and vendors were sternly warned against future encroachments, with BMC promising stricter penalties for repeat violations.
BMC officials said the drive aimed to restore clear pathways for pedestrians, improve traffic flow, and ensure timely completion of urban infrastructure projects like Metro.
