He appeared to reduce PM Trudeau, leader of the Canadian government, to merely a provincial leader. Trump made the comment on TruthSocial, the social media platform he himself owns.
Trump has already threatened that he would impose heavy tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada to ensure US-made products get boost in competition in domestic market. Trump has threatened of tariffs as high as 25 per cent.
Trump and Trudeau recently had a dinner with Trudeau at the former's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The meet took place on November 30 and Trump's post on TruthSocial post mocking Trudeau was made 10 days after the actual meet. The time period between the two events has given rise to speculation if the social media post was made after political calculations rather than it being just an off-the-cuff remark Trump is known for.
