Pakistan's Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb recently presented the Federal Budget for FY2025-26 to the National Assembly, announcing a 7% reduction in government spending that has drawn widespread criticism across the country. The austerity measures have faced opposition even within Pakistan's parliament, where one MP has made headlines by praising the economic model of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
A viral social media video shows the Pakistani parliamentarian highlighting Uttar Pradesh's superior economic performance compared to his own nation. "Uttar Pradesh alone has better economic indicators than all of Pakistan," the MP stated during a parliamentary session. "While Pakistan's entire budget stands at $62 billion, UP alone has a $97 billion budget. Our total revenue is $50 billion compared to UP's $80 billion revenue - this demonstrates the success of the Yogi model."
This isn't the first time the "Yogi model" has received praise in Pakistan. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister's development blueprint, which has significantly accelerated the state's economic growth, continues to garner international recognition.
