US President-elect Donald Trump on Friday (January 17) said that he had ordered the presidential inauguration to take place indoors in Capitol Hill Rotunda in light of severe cold wave across the country. Trump took to Truth Social, the social media platform he himself owns to make the announcement.

Currently, an Arctic Blast has caused record low temperatures in the US. Trump said in his post that he moved the inauguration ceremony indoors because he didn't want the attendees as well as security officials and even their horses to be uncomfortable in any way.

Before this, former US president Ronald Reagan held his inauguration indoors in 1985 due to extreme weather.

The Rotunda is a room inside the US Capitol. The name comes from the domed, circular shape of the room.

In his post, Trump said that inauguration of his presidency will be historic and memorable.

The inauguration ceremony, slated to be on January 20, will see Trump take oath of his second presidential term. He will be forty-seventh president of the United States of America. His first term saw him take-charge of the Oval Office between 2016 and 2020.

In 2024 US Presidential Elections, Donald Trump defeated Democratic Party's Kamala Harris who is the outgoing vice-president.

In 2026 US Presidential Elections, he defeated Hillary Clinton, a political heavyweight who has been US' secretary of state.

Whether moving the inauguration ceremony would greatly affect the structure or sequence of the inaugural ceremony was not immediately clear.
