Islamabad: India on Wednesday announced the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack. After the announcement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), an atmosphere of fear prevailed in Pakistan. Responding to India's series of measures against Pakistan, the neighbouring country's deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar's reaction was nothing more than an anti-India rant.

Criticising the suspension of the treaty, Dar denied the involvement of Pakistan in the Pahalgam terror attack. He also demanded proof from New Delhi. Talking to Pakistan's Geo News, Dar said that India failed to provide any proof of Pakistan's links in the Pahalgam attack. He also alleged a lack of seriousness in India's actions.

As per Dar, Pakistan Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif will also convene the National Security Committee meeting on Thursday morning in response to India's measures.

Ishaq Dar's Statement:

Reactions of Other Pakistani Leaders:

“India under international law cannot put Indian Basin treaty in abeyance, it will be gross violation of treaty law, this childish decision ll effect only poor farmers of Punjab and Sindh,” former Pakistan minister Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said in an X post.

“India’s reckless suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is an act of water warfare; a cowardly, illegal move. Every drop is ours by right, and we will defend it with full force — legally, politically, and globally,” PML N leader Awais Leghari said.

“Effectively cancelling Indus WaterTreaty, #India has escalated hostilities disproportionately. This is #Pakistan's blood line as such a national security redline is breached. Islamabad will go to any length (I mean any length) to secure its waters,” Bal;ochistan minister Jan Achakzai stated.

India announced a series of measures against Pakistan in view of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The announcement was made by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a press conference after the high-level Cabinet Committee on Security or CCS meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded on Wednesday.

1) The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 was held in abeyance with immediate effect until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjured its support for cross-border terrorism.

2) The integrated checkpost Attari has been closed. Those who have crossed over with valid endorsements may return through that route before 1st May 2025.

3) Pakistani nationals are not permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas. Any SVES visas issued in the past to Pakistani nationals are deemed cancelled. Any Pakistani national currently in India under SVES visa has 48 hours to leave India.

4) The Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi are declared persona non grata. They have a week to leave India.

5) India withdrew its own Defence, Navy and Air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These posts in the respective High Commissions are deemed annulled.
