Washington DC: After cutting short his participation in the G7 summit, United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday denied reports of working on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Trump further added that he is working on "much bigger" than the ceasefire between the two warring nations.
Taking a dig at French President Emanuel Macron, Trump is his post on Truth Social, said, "Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a "cease fire" between Israel and Iran."
The US President further added, "Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!"
Notably, earlier in the day, Trump announced he was abruptly cutting short his participation in the G7 summit and returning home amid the ongoing Iran-Israel war.
"I have to be back early for obvious reasons", Trump earlier told reporters as quoted by IANS. He said he would be leaving after the formal dinner “with these wonderful leaders”. The G7 Summit was overshadowed by the escalating war of missiles between Israel and Iran that began on Friday.
On Monday, Trump urged civilians to "immediately evacuate Tehran," shortly after which the White House announced he would be departing the G7 summit early. In a series of posts on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump strongly reiterated his long-held stance on Iran's nuclear ambitions, warning of serious consequences.
"Iran should have signed the 'deal' I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again!" Trump wrote, urging immediate action as tensions rise. "Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!" he added.
Israel has been conducting strikes in Tehran since Thursday night, but the US has so far declined to join the operation. Notably, Iran also launched several missile attacks on Israel targeting its cities, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa.
