Knightsbridge, London: In a dramatic incident on Thursday, February 13, a knife-wielding thug attacked a man who was allegedly burning the Quran outside London's Turkish consulate.
Several videos of the incident went viral on social media. In one of the clips, the attacker could be seen carrying a large knife while standing above the man who had his hood up, waving a book which was ablaze.
Have a look at it here:
In the video, the attacker, who snatched the book from the hooded man, spat on him and appeared to attempt a knife attack while he was on the ground.
As per a report by Mail Online, the police reported that the victim, identified as an ex-Muslim, suffered a finger injury but no stab wounds. A suspect was arrested on charges of possessing an offensive weapon and causing grievous bodily harm.
A man claiming to be the Koran burner said he was protesting against Turkish President ErdoÄŸan, accusing Turkey of becoming "a base for radical Islamists." He later posted that while burning the Quran, he was attacked with a knife.
The man, in an earlier X post, had stated he was burning the Quran in honour of Salwan Momika, who was killed in Stockholm after burning the Quran in 2023.
The viral clips of the incident met with a mixed reaction by netizens on X.
One of the users wrote, "He is attacked and stabbed by normal Muslims. Civilian Muslims stabbed him. Not ones that are terrorists. These are your normal average Muslims who stabbed him. I'm sick and tired of people saying a few bad apples do the terrorist attacks. This here is normal everyday Muslims that see a man burning a quran. Your average everyday Christian won't go up and stab a muslim for burning a bible. They don't mix. Expel them as they are infected with the Islamic cult virus, and there is nothing that can be done for them once infected. Oil and water don't mix."
"Free speech must be protected, even if it's offensive to some, violence is never the answer. The UK police should focus on protecting everyone's right to free speech, not just certain groups. Hope the victim recovers and the perpetrator faces justice, no place for violence in a civilized society," wrote another user on X.
