Tel Aviv: Israel on Monday reportedly carried out airstrikes on at least six military airfields in Iran. As per the Israeli Air Force, these six airfields are located in western, eastern and central Iran. The development came a day after the United States bombed three nuclear sites of Iran.

The airstrikes caused damage to Iran's air force capabilities as runways, bunkers and several fighter jets were destroyed, reported The Jerusalem Post. The fighter jets damaged in the Israeli airstrikes, include F-14, F-5, and AH-1.

"The Air Force attacked six Iranian regime airfields in western, eastern, and central Iran in an effort to deepen air superiority," the Israeli Air Force said in an X post.

The strikes damaged runways, underground bunkers, a refueling plane, and F-14, F-5, and AH-1 aircraft belonging to the Iranian regime.

Additionally, 20 fighter jets of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) also hit sites across Kermanshah, Hamedan and Tehran. The Israeli jets targeted Iran's missile storage and launch infrastructure, radar, satellite systems used for aerial intel and a surface-to-air missile launcher near Tehran.

"These strikes are part of our ongoing effort to degrade the Iranian regime's military capabilities and secure aerial superiority to protect Israeli civilians.," the IDF said in an X post.

Meanwhile, Israel military also confirmed that one of its drones was downed during an operation on Monday, reported The Associated Press.

Earlier on Sunday, the US hit three Iranian nuclear sites - Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Notably, it was for the first time that the US attacked facilities inside Iran since the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

A US official told Reuters that B-2 bombers carried out the strikes, firing six bunker-busting bombs at Fordow, while 30 Tomahawk missiles were used to target the other two sites. These facilities are central to Iran’s uranium enrichment programme.

On June 13, Isarel launched 'Operation Rising Lion' against Iran targeting its nuclear and military sites. In retaliation, Irsan also launched barrages of missile targetting major cities of Israel.

According to reports, over 800 people were killed in Iran in Israeli strikes.
