Seattle: In a historic moment, the Indian flag was hoisted at Seattle’s Space Needle on Independence Day, August 15, in the United States. It is for the first time that the Indian flag was displayed on the 605-foot tower.
The Indian consulate in Seattle shared the video of the national flag being raised on the tower. Soon the video went viral on social media.
"A historic first in Seattle! India’s tricolour soars over the Seattle skyline. Happy 79th Independence Day of India," the consulate said.

Consul General of India in Seattle, Prakash Gupta, and other notable dignitaries, including Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, took part in the flag hoisting ceremony.
"There is no greater honour than hoisting the Tiranga atop Seattle’s Space Needle. Jai Hind! Wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day," Gupta said in a social media post.
A community reception was also hosted by the consulate at Seattle’s Kerry Park. A large number of Indian American community members gathered at the spot to witness the historic moment.
Washington supreme court chief justice Debra L, Seattle Parks & Recreation director AP Diaz, and congressman Adam Smith are among the prominent dignitaries who attended the reception.
Meanwhile, the Consulate General of India, Seattle, also hosted the 79th Independence Day celebrations with the official flag hoisting ceremony at the Consulate premises.

The Space Needle, which was built in 1962, stands as a symbol of Seattle's skyline in the US Pacific Northwest region.
The Indian flag was also hoisted at the prestigious Tacoma Dome, Tacoma City Hall and at the Headquarters of Tacoma Police and Fire Departments, the Consulate said.
In November 2023, India opened its sixth consulate in Seattle.
