Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk on Wednesday (January 8) replied in agreement on a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi who targeted Pakistani diaspora over 'grooming gangs' sexual scandal in the UK.
Chaturvedi objected to the use of the word 'Asians' in news reports to describe perpetrators of the 'grooming gangs' scandal in the UK when records showed that the accused were overwhelmingly from the Pakistani diaspora. Chaturvedi asked why every Asian community should take blame for acts of people with origin in 'one absolute rogue nation'.
Musk had a one-word reply to Chaturvedi's post.
"True," he said.
What Is The Grooming Gangs Scandal?
The grooming gang refers to organised effort to push young girls in prostitution rackets or subject them to sexual abuse.
The usual modus operandi includes courting of young girls by younger men linked with these gangs. The girls are then soon introduced to alcohol and drugs, while slowly grooming them for the world of prostitution and even sexual abuse.
Chaturvedi's claim has facts backing it.
The New York Times quoted Nazir Afzal, former chief prosecutor for North West England region, who said,"There is no getting away from the fact that there are Pakistani gangs grooming vulnerable girls.”
Afzal is himself of Pakistani heritage.
Elon Musk has been very vocal against the 'grooming gangs' scandal on X, the social media platform he himself owns. Musk has even slammed UK PM Keir Starmer who he hinted allowed such crimes to take place. Musk has not provided evidence to substantiate all of his claims.
