US President Donald Trump on a post on Truth Social said, “China can now continue to purchase Oil from Iran. Hopefully, they will be purchasing plenty from the U.S., also. It was my Great Honor to make this happen!” Trump said on his way to a NATO summit in The Hague.

The post indicated a relief for Iran from sanctions Washington had previously imposed to punish the trade.

Trump's remarks come as part of ongoing discussions about global oil trade relationships.

China is an important buyer of oil from Iran, which accounts for roughly 13.6 per cent of purchases in 2025. China buys around 90 per cent of Iran’s shipped oil, according to a Reuters report.
