Toronto: At least one person died, while five others were reportedly injuries in a mass shooting in Canada's Toronto on Tuesday night (local time). According to reports, unknown assailants opened fire in the Lawrence Heights area of Toronto.
The Toronto Police confirmed that five people sustained "non-life-threatening gunshot" wounds. They were shifted to a hospital.
A command post has ben set up in the Ranee Ave Flemington Road area.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, in his social media post, said, "Disturbed by news of the shootings in the Lawrence Heights area this evening. My office is in contact with Toronto Police, who are on scene now and investigating, and the local councillor Deputy Mayor Mike Colle."
"I want to thank the first responders - Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic services for your work on a very busy and challenging scene. Toronto Police are working to provide an update soon," she added.
The entire area has been cordoned off. A search operation has been launched to nab the suspects.
