When there is an unprecedented amount of rain pelting in your area, it gets impossible to dry clothes indoors. One of the chores during the rainy season is drying laundry. However, dry washing may not be possible because many don’t have a dryer at home. If you, too, are struggling with racks of damp clothes indoors that never seem to dry completely, don’t worry; we have a few tips and tricks up our sleeves to share with you that will allow you to dry your laundry.

Material required:

Hair dryer

Tea towel

Spin your clothes a second time: Spinning helps remove excess water. So, if you need to dry clothes indoors, it is a good idea to spin the clothes a second time. This will draw more water out of the clothes, making it easier to dry clothes indoors.

Place the clothes in a room with a heater: Place a heater in a well-ventilated room. You can use your laundry room too. Hang your clothes on a clothes rack or a clothes horse beside the heater, and keep it at a distance of approximately one or two meters between them. Keeping it too close to the heater won’t help. The heat source from the heater should be able to flow around the rack and through the clothes (just like air). This is enough to dry your clothes in a few hours.

Your garments will dry in a few hours due to the heater’s hot air. To lower humidity and avoid mould, it’s also a good idea to have a dehumidifier in the space.

Place the clothes on a wall-mounted line: Placing a wall-mounted line beside the water heater in the laundry is also a good idea. This area is often a bit warmer and helps clothes to dry. Wall-mounted lines aren’t of the same strength and size as the regular ones, so excessive washed clothes won’t fit on them. You can easily dry daily wear clothes like uniforms, work clothes, baby clothes, etc. on it.

Use your hairdryer: You can blow dry your clothes easily with the help of a hair dryer. Remember, while heat does play a part in drying clothes, it is the air that mostly does the job. Set your hair dryer to high fan speed and low heat, and then use the dryer on the clothes.

Iron and towel method: This method is good for drying a couple of clothes that you require instantly. You need to place a dry tea towel on your ironing board, place the wet cloth you wish to dry over it neatly, and then cover the garment with a second tea towel. You must now iron edge-to-edge. The tea towels will protect the garment from direct heat and absorb excess moisture. The wet garment will come out dry and wrinkle-free.
