Pithampur (Madhya Pradesh): The construction of the state's largest underground tunnel is underway in Tehi village on the Indore-Dahod rail line. Despite challenges due to limited space inside the tunnel, engineers are working to accelerate the finishing touches.

To speed up the process, preparations are being made to work on the tunnel from both ends.

The tunnel will be 2,956 meters long. So far, the finishing line has been laid in 550 meters of the tunnel. The tunnel is being made waterproof and earthquake-resistant.

Inspection and Directions Railway Construction chief engineer Dhiraj Kumar inspected the tunnel with his team on Sunday and directed officials and engineers to expedite the work.

Tunnel Finishing Work Update

According to the information, three gentry machines are being used for the tunnel's finishing work. These machines are completing around 7-8 meters of tunnel finishing in 48 hours.

To accelerate the work, another gentry machine will be deployed from Monday. The target is to complete around 20 meters of finishing line in 48 hours. To achieve this target, preparations have been made to deploy gentry machines in both directions from the middle of the tunnel, and concrete vehicles will be used.

Due to the tunnel's narrow width, only one vehicle can enter the tunnel at a time, making it challenging for concrete vehicles to reach the gentry machines.

Trains are expected to run on the Indore-Dahod line up to Dhar by December end . Once the tunnel work is completed, train operations can commence from Indore to Dhar. According to experts, the finishing and track laying work in the tunnel is expected to be completed by October.

According to the information, the PMO regularly seeks progress reports from the Railway Ministry, state administration, and district administration to ensure the project's timely completion.
