Indian captain Rohit Sharma recently shared a funny behind-the-scenes moment from the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal against England. In a recent chat with Star Sports, Rohit recalled a light-hearted but serious talk he had with teammate Suryakumar Yadav on the field.

During Liam Livingstone’s over, Surya told Rohit that he would go after the bowler and Rohit could relax. But Rohit replied jokingly, “Yahan pe ye nahi chalega” (That won’t work here). He told Surya, “If the ball comes in my area, I’ll hit it too. We both need to go for it.

This funny conversation was also an important moment. Together, Rohit and Surya made a strong 73-run partnership. Rohit scored 57 runs and Surya made 47. Thanks to their efforts, India scored 171 runs. Later, India bowled out England for just 103 runs and won the match by 68 runs.

That win took India to the final, where they defeated South Africa and won the T20 World Cup after 17 years. Rohit also retired from T20 Internationals after the win. He played 159 T20 matches, scored over 4,200 runs, and ended on a high by lifting the World Cup trophy.

Although he failed in the final against South Africa, the Men in Blue sneaked in a thrilling seven-run victory to lift their second title. After the tournament, the veteran retired from T20I cricket.
