West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein was brilliant with the ball as he picked a five-wicket haul to help the hosts register 134-run win over Uganda in the T20 World Cup 2024 Group C match at the Provindence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, June 9.

After posting a total of 173/5 in a stipulated 20 overs, West Indies bundled out Uganda for a mere 39 runs in 12 overs. Akel Hosein brilliantly led the hosts bowling attack as he registered an impressive figures of 5/11 with an economy rate of 2.8 in four overs.

Apart from Hosein, Alzarri Joseph also contributed to West Indies bowling by two wickets, while Andre Russell, Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd took a scalp each.

For Uganda, Juma Miyagi managed to register double digit scores of 13, while other batters couldn't 10 runs in 174-run chase.

Chasing a hefty target, Uganda lost half of their side inside powerplay as they were reduced to 19/5 in 4.4 overs. Akeal Hosein ran into Uganda's batting line-up and picked three out of those five wickets in the first six overs of the second innings,

West Indies bowlers continued to dominate the match, toppling Uganda's batting further by taking three wickets while conceding just six runs and reducing them to 25/8. Juma Miyagi led Uganda's batting despite there was no hope of chasing down the target. Eventually, Uganda were bundled out for 39 after the side lost final two wickets of Cosmas Kyewuta and Frank Nsubuga.

West Indies' collective batting effort on display in the first innings

West Indies' batters put collective effort to post a respectable total on the board in the first innings against Uganda. Uganda bowlers, especially skipper Brian Masaba performed well but the hosts managed to build a solid foundation for their innings.

Johnson Charles led the West Indies with an innings of 44 off 42 balls. Andre Russell (30*), Rovman Powell (23), Nicholas Pooran (22) and Sherfane Rutherford (22) chipped in with their useful contributions. In the last over of the West Indies innings, Russell smashed 4 fours off Cosmas Kyewuta.

For Uganda, Brain Musaba led the bowling attack as he registered the figures of 2/31 with an economy rate of 7.80 in four overs, while Dinesh Nakrani and Cosmas Kyewuta picked a wicket each.
