Football Transfer News: Joan Garcia Officially Joins Barcelona From Espanyol, Signs Contract Until 2031

FC Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia from city rivals Espanyol. The 24-year-old has joined the Catalan giants after Barcelona activated his €25 million release clause, and he has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until June 2031.

Joan Garcia has been one of the standout young goalkeepers in Spain. He played a key role in Espanyol's promotion campaign in the 2023–24 season, keeping 12 clean sheets in 21 matches. His performances earned him Espanyol’s Player of the Season award and recognition across La Liga for his shot-stopping skills.

This signing marks an important move by new Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, who is focused on building a balanced and youthful squad ahead of the 2025–26 season. Garcia is expected to provide strong competition in the goalkeeping department and could develop into a future first-choice option for the club.

Barcelona’s decision to hand Garcia a six-year contract shows their long-term trust in his talent and potential. The club also continues its trend of investing in young Spanish talent who can grow within the team’s system.

With this move, Barca have not only strengthened their squad but also made a bold statement in the transfer market, signing one of La Liga’s most promising goalkeepers for the future.
