India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently on a tour to the Caribbean, made a hilarious quip while addressing the parliament at the Trinidad & Tobago. Modi heaped praise on West Indies' cricket team but hilariously stated that Indians wholeheartedly support them, except when the two face one another.

Although the West Indies have been on a decline for a while now, they were the most dangerous side during the 1970s and 1980s. They won the first two World Cups and remained unbeaten in a Test series for a staggering 15 years. They are also one of the only three sides to win the T20 World Cup twice.

The likes of Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Andy Robers, Michael Holding, Curtly Ambrose, Joel Garner remained the nucleus of the side for several years. Among the modern-day cricketers, Brian Lara, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo are some of the most renowned from the West Indies.

During his address at Trinidad & Tobago's parliament, Modi said:

"I must say, Indians are among the most passionate fans of the West Indies cricket team. We cheer for them with all our heart, except when they are playing against India."

West Indies currently engaged in Test series vs Australia

Meanwhile, the Caribbeans are currently engaged in a Test series against Australia at home. They lost a hard-fought first Test by 159 runs and are engaged in a tight battle in the second at Grenada.

With the Frank-Worrell Trophy not returning to their shores in several years, West Indies will need to mount a massive challenge to regain it.
