High school track athlete In US Brooklyn Anderson took the internet by storm after a stunning and unconventional finish in the 100m hurdles at the Oregon 5A State Championships on May 31. Representing Thurston High School, the junior athlete clinched first place dramatically with a pair of somersaults across the finish line that garnered more than 50 million viewers online.
Anderson was leading the race at Hayward Field in Eugene when she clipped the final hurdle, lost her balance, and began to fall forward. But instead of crashing out of the race, she tucked into a roll, executed two forward flips, and crossed the finish line first with a time of 14.93 seconds.
The moment is now being hailed as one of the most unforgettable finishes in the storied history of Hayward Field. Speaking to The Oregonian Anderson said, “I honestly just fell back on my gymnastics instincts. I didn’t know how close anyone was behind me, so I just kept rolling to make sure I crossed first.”
