MotoGP rider Franco Morbidelli was taken to the hospital after a scary crash during the Sprint race at the German Grand Prix held at the Sachsenring.

Morbidelli, who was riding for the VR46 Ducati team, had a great start and moved into second place early in the race. But while taking a fast corner at Turn 8, his rear tire slipped on the wet track, and he crashed heavily. He slid across the track with such force that his racing suit tore open.

He was first checked at the track’s medical center and then sent to a hospital in Chemnitz for further tests. Doctors found that he had a bad bruise near his left collarbone. Due to ongoing pain in his shoulder, Morbidelli was ruled out of Sunday’s main race and sent back to Italy for more medical checks.

This crash happened during a chaotic Sprint race with wet conditions. Marc Marquez won the race after a wild recovery, while Maverick Vinales also withdrew from the weekend after a crash during qualifying.

MotoGP: Marc Marquez Suffers Massive Crash, Still Sets Fastest Lap During Free Practice 1 At Dutch GP; Video

Marc Marquez showed amazing courage and skill during the free practice session (FP1) at the 2025 Dutch MotoGP in Assen. Just a few minutes into the session, he suffered a high-speed crash at Turn 15. He lost control of his Ducati bike, slid into the gravel, and hurt his left arm. Medical staff checked on him, but after a short break, he returned to the track.

Surprisingly, after that scary fall, Marquez went back out and set the fastest lap time of the session: 1 minute 32.216 seconds. This time was over three-tenths of a second faster than second-place rider Maverick Vinales. Marco Bezzecchi came third, while former champion Francesco Bagnaia took fourth.

Ducati explained that the crash happened because Marquez accidentally downshifted at the wrong time, which made the rear tyre lose grip. Even though he crashed, Marquez looked calm and focused. He currently leads the MotoGP championship and has been in great form, winning at Mugello and Aragon. His strong comeback today proves he’s still the one to beat this season.

Marc Marquez will now look to stay fit for the next practice and qualify directly for Q2. If his arm holds up, he’ll be a top favorite to win the Dutch GP.
