Football fans in Mumbai will be in for a treat as Argentina skipper and World Cup winner Lionel Messi is set to visit the city as part of a three-city tour between December 13-15. According to Indian Express report, a MCA source has confirmed the news of his visit to the city.
He said, “Messi will be at Wankhede Stadium on December 14. He is likely to play a cricket match, too, with former and current cricketers. The organisers will come up with a complete schedule once everything is finalised,”

However, the interesting part of his visit would be Messi trading his football boots for cricket bat. As per the report, if all plans fall in place then fans can watch Messi face Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni in a seven-a-side cricket match on December 14. As per the report, Efforts are on to finalise the logistics of the match, which may also see the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma
Which other cities will Lionel Messi visit?
This will be Messi’s second visit to India and the first in 14 years after the Argentine World Cup-winner travelled to play an international friendly against Venezuela at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium in 2011.
As per the report, Messi is set to visit the three Indian cities between December 13-15. The legend will reportedly be felicitated by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee at an event at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
During his stay in Kolkata, Messi will conduct a football workshop for children and launch a football clinic. A seven-a-side tournament called the “GOAT CUP” will also be organised in his honour at the Eden Gardens.
Earlier, Kerala sports minister had claimed that the Argentina icon was scheduled to arrive in the state for a friendly match in October but his visit to teh state still remains unconfirmed.
The 38-year-old currently plies his trade in Major League Soccer club Inter Miami and is eyeing to play in the FIFA World Cup for one last time next year, after leading Argentina’s march to the title in 2022, when the tournament will be held in the USA.
