Mumbai Indians star Suryakumar Yadav left behind the likes of Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina to become the fastest Indian to 4000 runs in IPL in terms of ball faced. The IPL 2025 clash between the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday saw the right-handed batter cross 4000 runs in the tournament only in 2714 balls, with only AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle ahead.
Gayle and De Villiers, who represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for multiple seasons, both completed the landmark in 2658 deliveries. Suryakumar, who has been the nucleus behind Mumbai Indians' dominance over the years, completed the landmark only in 2714 deliveries with a boundary in the 14th over of the innings.
Raina had notably taken 2886 runs to accomplish the milestone.
The veteran right-handed batter played some outstanding shots amid his 28-ball 54 that consisted of four boundaries and as many sixes. In the process, he has now become the Orange Cap holder with 427 runs, going past B Sai Sudharsan's run-tally.
"I was really happy that we lost the toss" - Suryakumar Yadav
Speaking to the host broadcaster during the mid-innings break, Suryakumar said he feels special to be wearing the cap after a long time and elaborated:
"This is the first time after a really long time I am wearing this cap. This feels special. Feels good. All the process and routines are coming into the ground. I was really happy that we lost the toss. It is really hot and is very challenging. Someone putting us into bat and us getting 215, is great."
