Sunrisers Hyderabad’s IPL 2025 campaign is teetering on the edge, with just three wins from nine matches leaving them in eighth place on the points table. With their next match still a few days away, the franchise has opted to hit pause on cricket and reset mentally by sending the entire squad and support staff on a team retreat to the Maldives.
The short getaway was organized immediately after SRH’s morale-boosting five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. The team landed in the Maldives on Saturday, with the franchise sharing glimpses of the trip on social media. A video showing the players' arrival was posted with the caption: “Sun, sea, and a team retreat for our Risers in the Maldives!”

The break comes at a crucial point in the season. With only a few games left in the league stage, SRH are desperate to find momentum and keep their playoff hopes alive. The team is expected to return to India early next week and travel directly to Ahmedabad ahead of their match against Gujarat Titans on May 2.
How has Sunisers Hyderabad performed in IPL 2025?
This season hasn't gone according to plan for the 2016 champions, especially after pre-season hype around their explosive batting line-up, which many predicted could even push the 300-run barrier.
However, those expectations came crashing down, particularly on slower pitches. Hyderabad struggled to adapt on such tracks, losing two matches at their home ground in Uppal and another away game against Mumbai Indians.
Their recent win in Chennai, however, showed signs of life in the squad. Pat Cummins and co. will need to win all their remaining five matches in order to stand a chance of making it to the IPL 2025 playoffs. It is pertinent to point out that SRH were runners-up in the previous edition of the tournament.
