Gujarat Titans overcame two rain interruptions and a fighting Mumbai Indians to register a dramatic three-wicket win under Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method to go on top of the IPL points table here on Tuesday.
Chasing a below-par 156, the Titans were guilty of an ordinary start which saw them lagging behind the DLS par-score when the rain impeded the game for the first time. But eventually they managed to reach the revised target of 147 off the last ball of the match which was reduced to 19 overs.
Gujarat were cruising at 113/2 before the rain interruption. Shubman Gill led the charge with a composed 43 off 46 balls. However, once play resumed, Mumbai's pace attack roared back. Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up Gill and later bowled Shahrukh Khan, while Trent Boult trapped Sherfane Rutherford to trigger a GT collapse.
Despite the late drama, the Titans held their nerve to seal a crucial win that pushed them to the top of the table, putting them on the brink of a playoff spot. Mumbai, on the other hand, slipped to fourth.
