Gujarat Titans IPL 2025 campaign ended in a heartbreaking loss to Mumbai Indians during the Eliminator match. Not only was it heartbreaking for Shubman Gill and his team but raw emotion spilled into the stands. As the final ball was bowled at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium and Mumbai Indians secured victory, cameras captured Nehra’s son crying inconsolably in the stands.

The young boy, overwhelmed by the tension and heartbreak of the high-stakes match, couldn't hold back his tears. Several spectators nearby attempted to console him, but the pain of seeing his father's team knocked out proved too much.

The emotional outpouring wasn’t limited to Nehra’s family. Shubman Gill’s sister, Shahneel, was also seen wiping away tears, needing comfort from other Gujarat Titans supporters in the stands.

Gujarat Titans, who had dominated much of the league stage and held the top spot for a significant stretch, saw their title hopes crumble with three consecutive losses including the two final group-stage matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, followed by the Eliminator setback.

Mumbai send Gujarat packing

In the crucial clash, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite Gujarat Titans’ efforts, dropped catches including two lifelines for Rohit Sharma by Gerald Coetzee and Kusal Mendis proved costly. Rohit capitalized, smashing 81 off 50 balls, while Jonny Bairstow, replacing Ryan Rickelton, added a solid 47 to take Mumbai to a formidable 228/5.

The Titans' chase started on the wrong foot as captain Shubman Gill departed in the first over. While Sai Sudharsan (80) and Washington Sundar (48) staged a fightback, Mumbai’s bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult applied the brakes in the death overs, ensuring Gujarat fell short.

Mumbai Indians will now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 on Sunday, June 1, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
