India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the Test squad during the ongoing fifth and final match against England at The Oval. As part of a pre-decided workload management strategy, it was confirmed before the series began that Bumrah would participate in only three of the five Tests.

Jasprit Bumrah released from Team India's Test squad

The 30-year-old speedster featured in the first, third, and fourth Tests of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Despite his absence, India recorded their only win of the series at Edgbaston a dominant 336-run victory under the captaincy of Shubman Gill.

Earlier, Team India's assiatant coach Ryan ten Doeschate on Thursday while speaking in press conference said, "It's quite a complex issue around Bumrah. We obviously want to wheel him in, but we also want to respect where his body's at, and on the basis of that, we just felt that it wasn't worth including him in the squad,".

He added, "But if you look at the loads, he's bowled a lot of overs, and like he did say coming into the tour, he was going to be available for three games, and we just felt it was right to honour that call,"

Bumrah's performance in England series

Bumrah finished the series with 14 wickets. His standout performance came at Lord’s, where he claimed 5 for 74 in the first innings a feat that earned him a coveted spot on the Lord’s Honours Board. He also grabbed another five-wicket haul in the series opener at Headingley, but his efforts weren’t enough to turn the tide in India’s favor in either the first or third Test.

India’s updated squad for fifth Test: Shubman Gill (C), KL Rahul (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, N Jagadeesan (WK)
