Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh acknowledged that Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to haunt him, having been dropped midway through the series against India due to poor form. The West Australian recalled how his nephew ted bowled with an action similar to Jasprit Bumrah, reminding him of his nightmare.
The 33-year-old had a forgettable outing in the recent Test series against India at home, with Bumrah dismissing him on three occasions. With Marsh managing only 73 runs in four Tests with a best of 47 and question marks rampant over his fitness, the selectors decided to bring in Beau Webster for the final Test.
Speaking at the Australian cricket awards in Melbourne, Marsh said:
"My little nephew Ted is four years old. We played backyard cricket one day, and he came in with Bumrah's action, and the nightmare continued."
Mitchell Marsh suffers injury setback as back issue rules him out of Champions Trophy
Meanwhile, a lower back injury has ended Marsh's dreams of representing Australia in the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy, having been initially named in the squad. The two-time title winners are yet to name the 33-year-old's replacement in the squad.
Australia's campaign in the Champions Trophy begins on February 22 against arch-rivals England at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. It was under Ricky Ponting that the Men in Yellow won both their titles.
