Renowned English football club Manchester United have taken a U-turn on releasing goalkeeper Tom Heaton as he is reportedly set to stay on with them until June 2026. According to Fabrizio Romano, who confirmed on X, manager Ruben Amorim-led coaching staff has approved of the decision and that the official announcement will come soon.

The 39-year-old was out of contract by the end of June and was widely tipped to leave Manchester United. However, the management changed his mind and the club is preparing to make an official announcement soon.
Romano wrote the below on X:
"Excl: Manchester United agree new deal for 3rd goalkeeper Tom Heaton staying at the club until June 2026. Decision shared with Rúben Amorim and approved by the coaching staff. Official soon."
Tom Heaton has represented a host of English football clubs
Heaton started his professional career with Manchester United in 2005 and played on loan for the likes of Swindon Town, Royal Antwerp, Cardiff City, Queen's Park Rangers, Rochdale, Wycombe Wanderers. The 39-year-old went on to feature for Cardiff City, Bristol City, Burnley and Aston Villa before returning to Manchester United in 2021.
Nevertheless, Heaton has played only on three occasions for England and his recent playing time has been limited due to being Manchester United's third-choice goalkeeper. Additionally, he made no appearances in the 2024-25 season of Premier League.
