The first ODI between India Women and England Women saw a bizarre moment when Harleen Deol was run out in unusual fashion despite appearing to have made it back to the crease. In the 22nd over of India’s innings, Harleen tapped a delivery from Charlie Dean to the on-side and set off for a quick single. But England’s Alice Davidson-Richards was alert and fired in a precise direct hit at the non-striker’s end.

Harleen, who had nearly completed the run, made a crucial mistake she leapt into the crease without grounding her bat or foot. The throw hit the stumps before she touched down, and after a third-umpire review, she was ruled run out. She departed for 27 off 44 balls, including four boundaries, leaving India at 102/3.

Indian women register a comfortable win

Earlier, England chose to bat and faced immediate pressure from Kranti Goud, who removed both openers within the first four overs. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt (41) and Emma Lamb (39) steadied the innings, while Sophia Dunkley top-scored with a fluent 83 off 92.

Contributions from Davidson-Richards (53 off 73) and a late cameo by Sophie Ecclestone (23 off 19)* pushed England to 258/6 in 50 overs. Kranti Goud (2/55) and Sneh Rana (2/31) picked up two wickets apiece, while Shree Charani (1/46) and Amanjot Kaur (1/58) took one each.

In reply, India paced their chase well, despite a few hiccups. Deepti Sharma led the charge with a match-winning 62 off 64 balls*, including three fours and a six. Jemimah Rodriguez also chipped in with crucial knock of 48 runs. For England Charlie Dean picked up 2 wickets. India sealed the win with four wickets to spare in 48.2 overs, taking a 1–0 lead in the three-match series
