Cricket’s long-awaited return to the Olympic stage is gathering momentum, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially announcing the dates for the men’s and women’s T20 competitions at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. Set to unfold from 12 to 29 July 2028, the T20 cricket tournaments will take place at the Pomona Fairplex, located roughly 50 kilometres from downtown Los Angeles.
This will mark cricket’s first Olympic appearance in 128 years, following its lone outing at the 1900 Paris Games, where Great Britain beat France in the only match played.
LA Olympics 2028: Dates for medal round matches and other details revealed
The women’s medal match is scheduled for 20 July, while the men’s final will close the event on 29 July. Both tournaments will feature six teams per gender, with 90 athlete quotas assigned to each event, enabling countries to field 15-member squads. Most matchdays will feature double-headers, with start times at 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM local time. Notably no cricket matches are scheduled on July 14 and 21 at LA28.

While the qualification pathway is still under discussion, it is expected to be a key topic at the ICC’s Annual Conference in Singapore, starting 17 July 2025.
Cricket's landmark moment
Cricket joins baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash as one of five new sports approved by the IOC for the LA28 Olympic Games. Women’s cricket made its Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham 2022, and both men’s and women’s formats have featured at the Asian Games in 2010, 2014, and 2023. The USA also played a prominent role in co-hosting the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, with matches held in Grand Prairie, Lauderhill, and New York.
