A day after the stampede in Bengaluru resulted in 11 deaths and injuries to 33, First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and DNA Entertainment. Additionally, a cabinet discussion is ongoing whether the case should be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
According to the state government, DNA entertainment managed the RCB's victory celebrations while the KSCA reportedly organized the same. According to reports, the case has been lodged under five sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including section 105, which relates to culpable homicide.
District Magistrate G Jagadeesha stated that he has already started working on the case. He told the below, as quoted by NDTV:
"I started working on it [investigation] from today itself."
The report will be submitted to the State government in 15 days. Aside from assessing the CCTV footages, the magistrate is also set to talk to the families of the deceased.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara spoke to reporters on Thursday, as quoted by NDTV:
"We did not make any request to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise or the Karnataka State Cricket Association in this regard. They organised the victory celebration event. The government also felt that it should felicitate the players and be a part of the celebration because it was a Bengaluru team. That's all."
After KSCA announces ₹5 lakh compensation, RCB also comes up with financial support:
A day after KSCA announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh, RCB came up with a statement to announce financial support for ₹10 lakh. RCB issued a statement that said:
"The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief."
