Following the tragic stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru that claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations, RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) have released a joint statement expressing their sorrow to the affected families.
The statement said,"RCB-KSCA expresses deep concern and heartfelt condolences regarding the unfortunate incident that occurred during the celebration organised by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium earlier today,".
"We are profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of life and the injuries sustained by individuals during this event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this incident. We sincerely regret this tragedy and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families during this extremely difficult time."
As a mark of support, RCB and KSCA have jointly announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of each individual who lost their life in the incident. They emphasised that this gesture is not meant to place a value on life, but to provide some comfort in a time of overwhelming loss.
The statement continued,"RCB-KSCA announces Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. We hope this gesture can offer some support and solace in their time of grief,".
RCB fan speaks about stampede incident
A RCB fan narrated the entire stampede incident which resulted in death of 11 people and injuring many. A large number of Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans have arrived at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to catch a glimpse of their champion team. A RCB fan says, "Inside, also the seats are all full and that's why they are not letting us go in. We want to go back but we are not allowed to go back. The gates are crowded with people, even if they open the gates, people will start coming inside and a lot of people have been injured..."
According to reports, a large crowd of RCB fans waiting to enter M. Chinnaswamy Stadium began banging on the gates after Bengaluru City Police urged them to leave the premises and watch the celebrations via livestream. The situation spiralled out of control when some resorted to jumping over the gates and fences to get inside the stadium.
