Losing the Border Gavaskar series has come at a cost for Team India players as BCCI decided to apply strict rules. In a major development Sports Now has reported that wives and families of cricketers will not be able to stay with them for the entire duration of an overseas tour.
They will only be allowed a maximum stay of 14 days on a 45-day tour. As per the report the decision was taken in the recent Annual General Meeting. the wives of several cricketers like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were seen in attendance for all games of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Besides cutting down on family time, the BCCI has also decided that all team members need to travel by the team bus only. They will not be allowed to travel separately.
The Indian team recently suffered a 1-3 defeat in the five-match Test series against Australia to relinquish the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years. This was India's second consecutive Test series defeat. They were beaten by New Zealand at home by a 0-3 margin before they embarked on the tour of Australia.
BCCI likely to introduce performance-based variable pay structure
Besides curbing the time with family members on overseas tour, report has emerged that BCCI is likely to introduce performance-based pay structure for the cricketers. Last year, BCCI introduced an incentive system for its Test players. As part of it, players who feature in more than 50% of Tests in a season since 2022-23 would receive a financial incentive of ₹30 lakh per game, and the payout will increase to ₹45 lakh per game for every player who plays at least 75% of the matches in a season.
According to Indian Express report, the idea behind floating such a proposal is to ensure that players are more “accountable" and, if needed, face a pay cut based on their performance. It has been reported that if the performance of any player is not up to the mark, it would impact his earnings.
