Bangladesh have announced their 17-man squad for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup, set to take place in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has included uncapped opening batter Tanzid Hasan, while Shamim Patowary, who has played T20I cricket, has received his maiden call-up to the ODI side.
22-year-old Tanzid Hasan has been called-up for Tamim Iqbal, who will miss the tournament due to a back injury. According to media reports, he has visited a specialist for London and is hoping to be fit for the ODI series against New Zealand, starting on September 21st on home soil. It's worth noting that Hasan hammered three half-centuries in the recent ACC Emerging Asia Cup tournament and had a strong Dhaka Premier League season.
The likes of Shamim Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, and Nasum Ahmed were recalled to the squad, while Mohammad Naim wasn't considered. A striking omission was that of veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah as Shamim, Afif Hossain, and Mahedi got the nod. While Mahmdullah played the ODI series against England in March, he missed the ones against Afghanistan and Ireland.
Taijul Islam and Rony Talukdar, both of who played in the ODI series against Afghanistan, were also notable omissions.
