Many people order more food than they can finish at restaurants, leading to unnecessary waste. To address this, a restaurant in Pune has introduced a unique rule. Here, customers who waste food are being charged ₹20 extra.
An X (formerly Twitter) shared this on the microblogging site. He wrote, "A hotel in Pune is charging ₹20 extra if you waste food. Every restaurant should do the same, weddings and functions should start charging fines too!" However, he did not mention the name of the restaurant.
Meanwhile, X users said this was an "excellent move", aimed at raising awareness about food wastage and promoting responsible dining.
A user wrote, "Charging for food waste is a smart move. Scaling this to weddings/events could curb the massive food waste crisis. Behavioural nudges work better than bans. More businesses should definitely adopt this model!"

"Good step. There should be a penalty on food wastage," commented another user.
"Excellent initiative," a third user stated.
