A tourist who slipped and fell into the Kalu waterfall gorge in the Khireshwar area of Junnar was rescued by a group of brave locals on Friday afternoon. The incident took place around 3 PM at the first stage of the waterfall, which drops into a deep valley in five stages.
The video of the incident is going viral on social media.
According to witnesses, the tourist, who had come from Pune with a group from Hyderabad, lost his balance while crossing the Kalu river and was swept away by the strong current. He got stuck on the edge of a deep gorge, hundreds of feet below, where the water was flowing rapidly.
Locals immediately rushed to help. With no rope available, the rescuers made a makeshift rope using scarves and dupatta. They pulled the tourist out just in time, preventing what could have been a fatal fall into the deep gorge.

Locals expressed concern over the growing number of accidents at Kalu waterfall. Tourists often visit this scenic spot, especially during the monsoon, to capture photos and videos. Many do so dangerously close to the edge, ignoring safety.
Residents are now urging the administration to install railings and deploy safety personnel, especially on weekends and holidays, when tourist numbers increase. They also appealed to tourists to be cautious and avoid risky behavior near waterfalls and riverbeds.
