On the occasion of the last Akhad Sunday (the last Sunday ahead of the holy month of Shravan), the Dhananjaybhau Jadhav Foundation, under the leadership of its President Puja Jadhav, distributed 5,000 kg of free chicken in the areas of Dhanori, Bhairavnagar, Sadbanagar, Zakat Naka, and Munjabavasti in Pune city.
This initiative has received an overwhelming response, with citizens gathering in large numbers to avail themselves of the free chicken distribution. People were seen queuing up in line to buy chicken.
Akhad Sunday is a local cultural tradition observed in parts of Maharashtra, especially in Pune, marking the last Sunday before the holy month of Shravan begins in the Hindu calendar. Since many Hindus abstain from non-vegetarian food during Shravan, Akhad Sunday is seen as a final opportunity to enjoy meat-based meals, particularly chicken or mutton. Though not a religious festival, it holds social and cultural significance, with families preparing special non-vegetarian dishes and some organizations distributing free meat to the public.

Speaking about the initiative, Foundation President Puja Jadhav said it is being implemented for the good health of the citizens and urged people to take full advantage of the opportunity.
For the uninitiated, Pooja More from Beed was in Kashmir on her honeymoon after marrying Dhananjay Jadhav. After the Pahalgam attack, she cut her holiday short and joined Kashmiris to assist the injured. She held a protest in Lal Chowk against a narrative that paints all Kashmiris as terrorists.
