A major crack has developed on the Pune-Satara stretch of the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway near Bhosalewadi village, following intense rainfall over the past two days on Wednesday. Waterlogging due to blocked drainage further compounded the issue, disrupting traffic and exposing infrastructural weaknesses in the area.

On Wednesday, torrential rain led to water accumulation on the highway near Umbraj and Karad, halting traffic for nearly an hour. The ongoing work of the highway in the Bhosalewadi limits has reportedly blocked natural water drainage routes, causing significant waterlogging. Laborers on-site attempted to drain the water as the rain continued, but the situation remained grim.

Motorists had to wade through the flooded section of the highway, leading to massive traffic snarls. A vehicle got stuck in the accumulated water, forcing authorities to suspend movement until it was cleared. Commuters expressed frustration over the lack of preparedness despite the active construction work in the area.

Heavy rains in Satara

Meanwhile, parts of Satara district—including the towns of Patan, Karad, and Koregaon—experienced heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning. In Satara city, water entered several low-lying shops reported prolonged waterlogging. Power outages were frequent, affecting both daily life and business operations. In the Kamani Haud locality, a wall collapse was reported due to the soaked foundation.

In Maan taluka, farmers suffered heavy losses as strong winds uprooted pomegranate trees, devastating orchards. The unexpected and unseasonal downpour also flooded streams and drains across Koregaon taluka, including Koregaon city and villages like Bhose and Bhadle valley.

Though it's May, the downpour resembled peak monsoon levels, leaving citizens stunned and unprepared. With more rains forecast, concerns over road safety, crop damage, and power supply remain high.
