A shocking incident has come to light from Khed taluka in Pune district, where a 43-year-old man was brutally attacked by a mob, including his in-laws, over an inter caste marriage. The victim's wife has been kidnapped, and the accused are on the run.

The incident took place on Sunday (August 3) around 1.15pm in Mandawala village.

The accused have been identified as Akshay alias Ganesh Rajaram Kashid, Bunty Kashid, Sushila Rajaram Kashid and 15 to 16 unidentified individuals.

According to the police, the complainant (victim's husband), Vishwanath Baban Gosavi, a hardware shop owner from Mandawala, married Prajakta Rajaram Kashid (28) on August 5, 2024, at Alandi. However, the marriage was not acceptable to the woman's family as it was an intercaste union. The woman's family was angry after the marriage.

On August 3, around 1:15pm, while Gosavi was cleaning a room in the ashram behind his house and Prajakta was washing clothes on the second floor, he heard her screaming. Rushing back, he found 15 to 16 unknown men blocking his way.

According to the FIR, Gosavi saw that his wife was dragged and assaulted by her brother Akshay, cousin Bunty, mother Sushila and around 15 to 16 unidentified individuals. The attackers allegedly held her by her hair and hands and pulled her down the staircase while she cried for help.

When Gosavi tried to stop them, he was assaulted with wooden sticks and metal rods. Akshay reportedly ordered others to break his limbs. Gosavi sustained serious injuries to his leg and was later diagnosed with a fracture at YCM Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Witnesses and others who attempted to intervene were also allegedly attacked. Despite opposing them, the accused managed to forcefully abduct Prajakta and flee from the scene in an SUV and other vehicles.

Snehal Raje, Assistant Police Inspector of Khed Police Station, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, "Victims and accused are natives of the same locality. The incident happened over the intercaste marriage. Prajakta's family was trying to bring her back for the last few months, but she was denying it. Gosavi belongs to the nomadic tribe community, whereas Prajakta is a Maratha."

"The complainant's leg was broken by the accused with bamboo sticks. He is under medical treatment. The accused are on the run. We have identified them, and soon they will be arrested. Furthermore, the matter is under investigation. Regarding the matter please has been registered in Khed police station under sections 140(3), 118(1), 115(2), 189(1), 189(2), 189(4), 191(2), 191(3), 351(2), 351(3) and 352 of Bhartiya Nyaay Sanhita."
