Khadked Indore village in Nashik district's Igatpuri taluka is currently experiencing a severe water shortage. The well and water tank, the main water sources of the village, have completely dried up, causing a serious water crisis for the villagers.

“Women and girls in the village have to descend two kilometres down the mountain to fetch water from the borewell near the crematorium. However, now the water in that borewell is also decreasing, and it takes 20 to 25 minutes to fill a pot of water. Since the water flow is thin, the water stops when the pot is half full and can be filled again only after waiting for some time," says Class 11 student Akshada Lote.
Gunvanata Lote, a villager, said, “From January itself, we start to feel the pinch of the water crisis. 25 years have passed since I came to this village after my marriage, but nothing has changed. Due to this situation, women are having to suffer a lot. Fatigue, shortness of breath, and standing in the sun for hours are affecting their health. The education of students is being disrupted, while the employment of women is also in danger.”
Surrounded by mountains and forests, women are also facing the fear of wild animals while fetching water. This is not just a water problem, but is linked to serious social issues like health, education, security, and development, expressed by villagers.
The villagers have demanded that the administration immediately provide water through tankers and take long-term measures.
