The unseasonal rain affected several areas in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district last week. The heavy rains with storms, hailstorms and lightning caused heavy losses. Casualties were also reported due to rain. The district collector has directed the officers to personally visit and take review of the losses incurred to the residents and the farmers.
A meeting in this regard was held at the district collectorate on Monday. All sub-divisional officers, tehsildars, block development officers participated in the meeting through the audio-video conferencing. Zila Parishad CEO Ankit, additional district collector Sambhajirao Adkune, resident deputy district collector Vinod Khirolkar and other senior officers were also present.
As many as 18 villages were affected due to unseasonal rains in the district and five persons were reported to have died while five others were injured. Similarly, 66 animals were also killed. In all, 62 pakka houses and 112 kaccha houses caused losses. In all, 1,246 farmers in the area of 616.3 hectares were affected, the officers informed.
Swami said, the storms and hailstorms caused losses in the district due to unseasonal rains last week. The local administration should be alert and should conduct the panchnamas of the losses by personally visiting the affected places, he directed.
Two persons were killed and six others injured in a lightning strike in Maharashtra's Latur district on Monday evening, an official said.
The incident occurred in Gothala village of Ahmedpur tehsil when a group of people were working in a field, he said.
In another lightning strike in the district, a buffalo died in Tiruka village of Jalkot tehsil, the official said.
Last year, 15 people lost their lives due to bolts from the sky in the district.
The official said the district has only three lightning arresters installed in Latur, Ausa and Chakur.
