Tension prevailed in Parbhani city when some unidentified persons desecrated a stone sculpture of the Indian Constitution in the Bharatratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue area on Tuesday night. Several leaders, officials of political parties, Ambedkarite organizations, and citizens gathered at the spot and demanded immediate investigation and arrest of the accused.

The news of the desecration spread quickly throughout the city and district, leading to some people closing their markets. Considering the law-and-order situation, a huge police bandobast was deployed. Several people gathered at the Dr. Ambedkar statue area, and the mob nabbed one person who had allegedly desecrated the Constitution structure, severely beating him. The police rushed to the spot and rescued him. He has been admitted to the government hospital for treatment.

After the incident, traders closed shops on Basmath Road, Jintur Road, Gangakhed Road, and other places. The Kacchi Market, Janta Market, and SuperMarket were also closed.

The Ambedkarite organizations have demanded a rapid investigation and the arrest of the accused responsible for the desecration.

District Collector Raghunath Gawade also went to the spot and tried to convince the mob. He assured an unbiased investigation into the matter and appealed to the people to maintain peace.

Social activists Vijay Wakode, Bhimprakash Gaikwad, Ashish Wakode, and other officials were present. SP Ravindrasingh Pardeshi also appealed to the people to maintain law and order and warned of strict action against the violators.
