In good news for Pune residents, the much-anticipated tanpura-shaped cable-stayed pedestrian bridge connecting Chhatrapati Sambhaji Park Metro Station to Shaniwar Peth is almost complete. Built across the Mutha River, this unique structure will soon provide a direct, safe, and convenient walkway for commuters traveling between the metro and the old city areas.
Once open, the bridge will help people from Shaniwar Peth, Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, and surrounding marketplaces access the metro without needing to cross busy roads or take long detours. The design of the bridge, inspired by the musical instrument tanpura, also adds an aesthetic touch to the city’s infrastructure.
The 170-meter-long cable-stayed bridge features a deck that is supported by an asymmetrical, uniquely designed pylon. Once the sun sets, the structure will be lit up with a programmable LED lighting system that can display a variety of colors. For the ease and comfort of pedestrians, the bridge will also be equipped with both escalators and stairways.
Pagdi Bridge From Deccan Metro To Narayan Peth Set To Open By June 15
Additionally, another pedestrian bridge connecting Deccan Metro Station to Narayan Peth is under construction and is expected to be completed by June 15.
Taking inspiration from the traditional Maratha Mavala turban, the bridge’s design features a 105-meter-long structure with an 18-meter-tall bowstring arch. On the western side of the crossing, it includes an 8-meter-wide concrete path that serves both as a walkway and a viewing platform. The bridge will also be fitted with adjustable LED lights, allowing for a vibrant and changing display of light and color.
Meanwhile, the deadline for the completion of Metro Line 3 (Shivajinagar–Hinjawadi) has been extended to next year with trials scheduled from September 2025.
The 24-km-long elevated route from Shivajinagar to Hinjawadi is set to have 23 stations, namely: Megapolis Circle, Embassy Quadron Business Park, Dohler, Infosys Phase II, Wipro Phase II, Pall India, Shivaji Chowk, Hinjewadi, Wakad Chowk, Balewadi Stadium, NICMAR, Ram Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, Baner, Krushi Anusandhan, Sakal Nagar, University, RBI, Agriculture College, Shivajinagar and Civil Court.
