"The Maharashtra State Cabinet has approved the decision to provide Viability Gap Funding (VGF) required to start flight service between Solapur and Mumbai. It will pave the way for the Solapur-Mumbai flight service, and will be started soon," posted Murlidhar Mohol on Monday.
Thanking the Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of State for Civil Aviation posted on X (formerly Twitter) announced the launch of new flight service between Solapur and Mumbai.
“The dedicated service will definitely benefit Solapur and the surrounding districts and will certainly boost tourism and entrepreneurship,” Mohol said in a post on X.
After Solapur-Goa service, now Solapur-Mumbai is the second route available for people from Solapur.
After a wait of 15 years the Solapur-Goa flight service was made operational in June this year. It was inaugurated by CM Devendra Fadnavis from Hotagi Road Airport. An airline from Goa will operate flights on four days a week - Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
During its inauguration Mohol said that the connectivity from Solapur was pending for a long time. We are now initiating to develop the Solapur airport and enable it for landing due night hours and also emphasised to extend its runway.
Mohol went on to mention that work is going on to connect Solapur with Tirupati and Hyderabad in coming months.
While the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) Scheme aims to support infrastructure projects that are economically justified but fall marginally short of financial viability.
